In the news this week......

Well a couple of news items this week left me chuckling to myself. First of all was the ill-advised photo op of Air Force One over New York. The jumbo jet was accompanied by two fighters. Apparently, New Yorkers tend to watch the skies a little more than they did before 9/11 and the sight of a passenger jet followed by fighters seemed to tweak their memories of another low flighting airplane.

Hmmmmm. I guess no one thought about how that might look from the ground. A PR fail for sure, but I hope no one hurt themselves in the panic that ensued.

A bunch of warnings have been issued against flying to Mexico because of the swine flu. Not a laughing matter. People are dying. But the sensationalism in the media really drives me bananas.

The flu will spread because its already too late. Thousand of people have visited and left Mexico over the past weeks, going to their home communities where the little germs will spread.

This is what happens in the age where international travel can be done without a second thought. Never in mankind's history has it been more easy or more prevalent. By the time the news of travel warning broke, it was already too late to contain it.

Then there is the rumour that Mexican pigs can fly, so its all a mute issue anyway.
