Perspective

So I may not be the biggest hockey fan in the world.

As a third generation Canadian, I am also not the best skater.

I've lived in Toronto all my life and love this city. The Toronto Maple Leafs last won the Stanley Cup when I was three. (I'm 40+ now, but don't tell anyone). The Leafs last played with my emotions in 1993 when the excitement of playoff hockey last teased me. Was I suprised by the Leafs defeat at the hands of Boston, blowing a 4-1 lead.

Not really. I've learned two things being a 40+ Leaf Fan: Anything can happen in sport. And half the time you won't be happy with the outcome.

Secondly, when you stop "playing to win" and only "play not to lose", you're cooked. "Ok, thats all I have to say about that". (he says in his best Fosest Gump drawl).

So here is a pic from when Toronto had a winning Maple Leafs team. Decades before the Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leaf Baseball Club played in this stadium on the lake at the foot of Bathurst.

The stadium is gone. Just like our hope for a Stanley Cup in 2013.
