According to the South African Journal of Science, it turns out that William Shakespeare may have indulged in a little weed once in a while.
You have to admit, a good chunk of his work sounds like he was fairly stoned.
"But soft, what light from yonder window breaks"?
If James Franco were ever to play Romeo, he might have improvised the line as he looked through the two bloodshot eyes, "Dude, what the hell, its too bright! Close the blinds. Wait, dude, who's that babe?".
Anyway, according to the study, researchers were checking out some tobacco pipe fragments found at Bill's place and, using some pretty advanced scientific tests, they found four that had some trace elements of cannabis.
Of course, a whole bunch of scholars have dismissed the study and you have to admit that four 17th century pipes may have had someone other than Shakespeare taking a pull or two on them.
Then again, consider Bill's Sonnet 76
To new-found methods and to compounds strange?
Why write I still all one, ever the same,
And keep invention in a noted weed........
