Giant Squid Caught
In February, fishermen off the coast of New Zealand landed a Giant Squid in their nets. The significance of this catch is underscored when you realize that we have only ever seen 6 of them. Ever! A full specimen is a rare find. At over 1000 pounds, these are the largest of the squid family and live about 3000 feet below the surface.
Whats ironic, is this discovery has only been made because commercial fishermen have been forced to fish in areas, and at depths, they never have before in order to find fish. This puts them in competition with the other inhabitants of those waters.
You can see a video of it at CNN.com here.
