Comes a Time.

Like many people, I have watch this weeks inauguration with awe.
Like many people, I have had dozens of thoughts on the new President.

Here are a few:

1) Can we believe he will be a catalyst for real change? He has risen through the American political system unscathed. Can a person emerge from this process with ideals and dreams intact?

I hope so.

2) The bigger the expectation, the harder the fall. If the new president fails to deliver, how disillusioned will Americans become? Can they go any lower?

The proof is in the pudding. This time, however, the whole world is watching.

3) Enough with the black thing. Its about friggin time America had a black President. Regardless of race, religion or sex, the job should go to the person who is best qualified. That didn't seem to happen with the last election (thanks Florida). I will admit to being moved, and feeling very naive in this belief, as I watched the reaction of African Americans on the television. They have, at last, seen a dream come true.

4) Everyone can breathe a sigh of relief that Bush is gone. If there is any testament to America, its the fact that they survived 8 years with that type of leader. People seemed impressed that Obama walked Bush to the ramp of the helicopter. I think he just wanted to be sure the guy got on and didn't try to sneak back into the White House.

5) Is there an international leader who has a better looking wife?

6) I get the real sence that this articulate leader can give an excellent speech, but I also believe that he has the ability to be really cool and speak to people in a plain, ordinary, unflowered tongue. I am really looking forward to those moments.

7) Can anyone deny the fact that, inspite of what people think of the political American machine, millions of Americans (And I literally mean MILLIONS) braved the cold to decend on Washington for yesterday's events. Message to the American Government: don't piss these people off. They are awake, they are inpired, they are watching!

8) Will Canada ever see the day when we get that kind of proportioned turn-out for one of our leaders? Maybe when we have one with an ounce of character and integrity. Stay tuned, but don't hold your breath.

9) TV sucks these days. But can anyone who watched yesterday deny a feeling that you were watching history in the making? To date, I can recall where I was the moment Armstrong landed on the moon, the Berlin wall came down, Challenger blew up and the events of 9/11. I add yesterday to the list.

Good luck, Mr. President. No, luck isn't the right word.

Like the line from Stephen King's Christine, "Ok, show me!".
