Shortly after taking off from a New York airport, this commuter jet ran into a flock of geese and lost power (I am still suprised what birds can do to an aircraft and this doesn't happen more often).
Without power, the 58 year old pilot glided the jet away from the populous Manhatten Island to land it in the Hudson River. All aboard got off safely.
Doesn't take much to realize how bad this could have turned out.
The pilot is a hero.
