The GTAA Saga Continued.......
My GTAA post yesterday prompted far more comments than any other post I have done in the past. For those unfamiliar with the Toronto airport area, there is a river that runs through the ravine in question. Toronto's conservation authority has been trying to bring the populations of trout back into the river. Stocking the trout is not cheap and accidents like this one (and normal airport operations like de-icing) can have a devastating effect on the local ecosystem if not done properly and contained.
Of course I am happy no one was injured. I know nothing about which aircrews are better trained. At this airport, an adjacent runway was the site of a fatal accident in 1978 when an Air Canada jet ran into the steep ravine leading down to Etobicoke creek. Those passengers were not as lucky.
I am not an airport authority, but these accidents can set back ecological advancements decades. I love fishing and have been applauding efforts to bring the trout populations back into the Toronto area rivers.
