A month or so ago I had written about the ecological recovery of the Thames river system in England. This past week, 40 or so dolphins beached themselves along the river. Most died.
They all appeared healthy and their bellies were empty (suggesting they were not pursuing fish at the time), so some are speculating they were confused by Navy sonar activity.
Bottom line is no one really knows why whales or dolphins beach themselves.
