Never can I recall a winter that has seen more house fires. Last night, a fire in Hamilton claimed 4 lives, 2 of them children. Earlier this week, there was a house fire that claimed the life of a man in Scarborough.
The week before, a mother and daughter mourned the loss of her husband and her two other children. The father rescued one but died trying to help the other two children out.
In addition to the big fire down on Queen Street two weeks ago, I think we have seen at least 6 house fires since the new year, with most of the homes not appearing to have functional smoke detectors.
Make it your task to check yours before the weekend is out. Tomorrow's Sunday. What else do you have planned.
Oh, and for the record, I checked mine today.
