The Last Supper in High Resolution

The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci was painted in the late 1400s and is located in Milan, Italy. Fans of the Da Vinci code and other conspiracy theories will love the fact that a 16 billion pixel image of the famous painting has been posted on the internet to allow art lovers and conspiracy theorists to pour over the masterpiece at their leisure. It is amazing to get that close to one of the world's most famous paintings.

Things to look for if you're new to the theories:

1) Simon (first from the right) is a based on the image of Plato. Andrew, third from the left is Simon's brother, maybe a twin.
2) Christ forms a perfect A shape. One hand down, as a priest would when blessing someone, the other palm up toward the heaven). The A shape could represent Alpha, or the beginning.
3) There is a distinct V between Jesus and John on the left. Some say that "John" is really Mary Magdalene and the V shape is sympbolic of the female womb, suggesting the two were married. Either way, John isn't much of a man's man in the painting.
4) Judas (third from Jesus to the left with dark hair) is reaching for the missing chalice- the holy grail- at the same time as Jesus. It is noticibly absent from the table.
5) Leonardo added himself as the apostle Thaddeus beside Simon-second from right.
6) There is a knife in a hand behind Judas' back supposed belonging to Peter (white haired, between John and Judas) but it looks strangely detached or at least anatomically awkward.
7) James the Less, second from the left, is the spitting image of Christ and they were allegedly often confused for each other. That is the reason Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss, so that the authorities got the right man.
8) The Apostle on the far left is Bartholomew. How many of you knew there was an apostle named Bart?
9) Thomas, first to the right of Christ, holds up one finger. Thomas, or Doubting Thomas, inserted his finger in Jesus' wound to convince himself he was the risen Lord.
10) There is a knot in the table cloth only on the right side of the table. I had read the knot was a Cathar symbol of Mary Magdalene.
11) The apostles are arranged in groups of three.
11) The painting is supposed to be portray the exact moment Jesus tells the 12 apostles that one of them has betrayed him, but
- the three on the right don't even seem to be paying attention. Two have their back to Jesus - thats just rude. What are they arguing about?
-Phillip, third to the right of Jesus in a nice peach coloured robe seems to be saying "Hey dude, it wasn't me man!"
-Judas is grabbing on real tight to that sack of coins he holds in his right hand. I think he's saying, "Um, I'm just going to pop outside and check the meter. I'll be right back".
